Why support us?
Residents and visitors to Kleinmond alike enjoy the mountain, the sea, the fynbos and the life it supports on our own doorstep. Unfortunately, we as humans don’t only leave our footsteps in nature. We leave our trash behind. We pollute the sea with plastic. Foreign plants and trees were previously planted to stabilize dunes, but now they have become invasive and threaten the life of the fynbos.
The volunteers of Kleinmond Nature Conservation Society have for 50 years literally removed tens of thousands of hakeas, Mirtle and other alien and invasive plants and trees. We do beach clean-ups and clean-ups along hiking trails. Members participate in citizen science projects like the iNat Bioblitz and CWAC bird counts. The many kilometres of safe hiking trails are maintained and restored after winter storm damage. Mimetes Park has been restored by volunteers to a gem where the public can enjoy local fynbos. Kleinmond is surrounded by Kogelberg Biosphere reserve of which die Kleinmond Coastal and Mountain Nature Reserve is part. In the area 1880 fynbos species have been identified and are threatened by alien invasive vegetation, human development and activities like poaching.
By making a bequest to the Kleinmond Nature Conservation Society you will help to protect the fynbos in our area for future generations. The income from bequests is invested in a reserve fund and only the interest will be used for our projects and activities.
